This is the cover to Dr. Brian Purnell's, 'Fighting Jim Crow in the County of Kings:The Congress of Racial Equality in Brooklyn (Civil Rights and the Struggle for Black Equality in the Twentieth Century)'.
The name of the boy in the photo is Bernard Hall. It was taken by Bob Adelman who was the CORE staff photographer for the early 1960's.
This is the first book on a NYC CORE chapter. Other than the book on the history of Seattle CORE, this is the only other major book on CORE specific since Meier and Rudwick's , 'CORE: A Study in the Civil Rights. Movement, 1942-1968'.
Purnell is currently an assistant professor of Africana Studies at Bowdoin Univeristy.
